The first step in configuring the keyboard or a gamepad is to decide on the controller type.Also, note that “ Port 1” is Player 1 and “ Port 2” is Player 2.

You can't use both the keyboard and a gamepad. Or configure your gamepad if that's what you're here to do.

Instead of slapping around the keyboard to figure out which button is which, I recommend taking this moment to reassign buttons to keys you're comfortable with. Normally in these screens, video game emulators tell you which button is associated to which keyboard key.
